Examiner

An independent person appointed by the bankruptcy court to conduct an investigation of the debtor, including any allegations of fraud, dishonesty, incompetence, misconduct, mismanagement, or irregularity in the management of the affairs of the debtor of or by current or former management. The Code requires the appointment of an examiner if requested by a party in interest and the debtor has fixed, liquidated, unsecured debt (other than debt for goods, services, or taxes, or debt owing to an insider) exceeding $5 million.
