A person appointed in a Chapter 7 case to liquidate the debtor’s assets and distribute any proceeds to creditors. The Chapter 7 trustee—rather than the debtor—controls and administers all property of the bankruptcy estate. Unlike in Chapter 11, there is a trustee appointed in every Chapter 7 case.
